Making Children’s Thinking Visible
The Artists at the Centre Project celebrated 10 years on Sunday May 15.
Artists at the Centre is a project that brings artists into child care centres and family resource centres in Hamilton Ontario Canada, where the early childhood educators are exploring the Reggio Emilia approach. It is funded by the City of Hamilton and Ontario Early Years, with significant support from the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts. It has also received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Hamilton Community Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
Today’s Family has participated in the project for more than 8 years. Artists from the project are engaged at the Ryerson Ontario Early Years Centre, the Waterdown Ontario Early Years Centre, Hill Park Ontario Early Years Centre, Lime Ridge Mall Ontario Early Years Centre, R.A. Riddell Early Learning and Child Care Centre, Hamilton Mountain Early Learning and Child Care Centre and the Dundas Early Learning and Child Care Centre. The approach of all programs offered by Today’s Family supports the Reggio Emilia approach.
The exhibit runs until May 28, 2011 at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts . There is no charge to view the exhibit.

Micro-Lending Opportunites for Caregivers
Did you know that TF is involved in the micro-lending initiative?
Particular to the micro-lending program, we contract caregivers through our licensed home early learning and child care programs. There are over 150 homes offering licensed home child care through Today’s Family.
“Today’s Family is very supportive of the Micro Loan Program. In our organization, the Micro Loan opportunity gives caregivers a chance to establish a credit rating to start and build a small business. For Today’s Family, it helps to create a quality child care environment; supporting children and families in our community.”
FirstOntario Credit Union, working closely with seven community supporters, including Today’s Family, has launched an innovative Micro Loan Program designed to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit within the Hamilton community. This new program provides Micro Loans to individuals who have a great idea for a micro-enterprise, but may not be able to access traditional financing. Financial assistance in the form of a Micro Loan from FirstOntario is combined with support programs offered by participating community partners to help these individuals get their self-employment dream off the ground.
